A 1909 Craftsman, on 0.3 acres

This three-bedroom, two-bathroom house in the Gerstle Park neighborhood sits on a large lot that includes a studio, a chicken coop and a practice basketball court. It’s less than a mile from the center of town and Nepalese, Italian, and Japanese restaurants are all within a five-minute drive, as are a movie theater, a supermarket, and a SMART station.

Berkeley and San Francisco are both 35 minutes away, and Sonoma is 40 minutes away.

Indoors: Outdoor steps lead from the front yard up to a set of double doors that open to an enclosed sunroom, with a second door opening from here to the living room. A fireplace has a tile surround, and walls in this space and the dining room behind it are finished with wainscoting.

The dining room also has floral-print wallpaper and a built-in cabinet with original leaded glass doors. The kitchen, at the back of this level, has stainless steel appliances, including an electric range.

Stairs lead from the back of the house up to the second-floor primary suite. Its bedroom fits a king-size bed and has its own balcony. The bathroom has a walk-in shower. The other two bedrooms are on the first floor, as is a full bathroom.

Outdoor space: A deck behind the house has space for an outdoor dining setup. A second deck and a guest studio with a full bathroom are further back on the lot. Also at the back of the lot is a practice basketball court and space for gardening. A detached garage entered directly from the street fits two cars.

A Spanish-style house built in 1930, on 0.1 acres

This two-bedroom, two-bathroom house is on the border of Studio City and North Hollywood, within walking distance of a stretch of Tujunga Avenue that’s home to boutiques, cafes, and Mexican and Italian restaurants. A public middle school and a city park with a track and a playground are also easily reached on foot.

The NoHo Arts District is five minutes away, as is Ventura Boulevard. Hollywood Burbank Airport is a 20-minute drive and downtown Los Angeles takes 25 minutes.

Indoors: A paved path winds through the front yard and up to a private front courtyard framed by mature plants.

Inside is a foyer with hardwood floors that continue into the living room, which has original wood ceiling beams. Windows flank a fireplace with an original surround. The dining room, across the foyer, has an arched picture window overlooking the front yard. Through the dining room is the updated kitchen, which has new stainless steel appliances and a tile backsplash.

A hallway links the living room and both bedrooms. The primary bedroom, at the far end, has casement windows and original hardwood floors, and its bathroom has a walk-in shower lined with black and white tile.

The second bedroom can hold a queen-size bed, and the second bathroom, also off the hall, has a combined tub and shower.

Outdoor space: A patio off the kitchen is tiled, and a second, with space for a dining setup, is at the far end of the backyard. The detached garage can fit two cars.
