Fayetteville, Texas | $799,999

A circa 1856 farmhouse, on 0.2 acres

This four-bedroom, three-bathroom house, most recently used as a short-term rental property, is in the center of Fayetteville and within walking distance of a diner, a convenience store and a handful of antiques stores. Round Top, home of an antiques fair that draws big crowds, is 20 minutes away by car, as is Kreische Brewery State Historic Site.

Texas A&M University, in College Station, is a 90-minute drive, as is Austin. Houston takes less than two hours.

Off one side of the kitchen is a dining room with wood-paneled walls painted white, and off the back of the kitchen is the primary suite. The bedroom holds a king-size bed and the bathroom has floral-print wallpaper and a walk-in shower.

Another bedroom is off the living room, and off the main hallway is a bathroom with a green claw foot soaking tub. Stairs lead from the back of the hall to the second floor, where two more bedrooms each can fit two double beds. A bathroom on this floor has a wood vanity and a walk-in shower with goldtone hardware.

Outdoor space: The back patio has a fire pit with space for chairs around it, and across the backyard is a detached two-car garage that has a second floor apartment with a kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.

A Spanish-style house built in 1928, on 0.7 acres

This three-bedroom, two-bathroom house, surrounded by mature fir and cedar trees, is a few blocks from an expansive city park with botanical gardens, a disc golf course and playing fields for soccer and baseball. A public elementary school is within walking distance and several grocery stores are within a five-minute drive.

Getting to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport takes less than 10 minutes by car and downtown Seattle takes 30 minutes.

Indoors: The house is set back from the street, and at the end of a driveway is a garage and a stone path leading to an elevated porch. A glass-paneled door opens directly to the living room, where a fireplace has its original brick surround, and hardwood floors continue into a dining room that has access to a covered side porch.

Behind the dining room is the kitchen, where there are new soft-close cabinets and an original white enamel Monarch gas range. A corridor links this part of the house to the primary bedroom, which has windows along two walls. Next door is this level’s bathroom, with a combined tub and shower and a tile floor with a Greek key pattern.

Another bedroom and a space used as an office are off the kitchen, as are steps that lead down to the lower level den, which has its own fireplace. A bedroom that holds a queen-size bed and a full bathroom are also on this level, as is a second kitchen.

A unit in a 1909 rowhouse converted into condominiums

This two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom unit occupies the top two floors of a rowhouse in Bloomingdale, within walking distance of Howard University and of the U Street corridor. An Italian restaurant is across the street, and a barbecue spot, a pub and a Korean fried chicken restaurant are within a few blocks. The Park at LeDroit, which has a playground and a fenced-in dog area, is also within walking distance.

By bus, Dupont Circle and Capitol Hill are less than 30 minutes away.

Indoors: The front door opens to steps that continue up to the center of the main level, with the kitchen and living room at the back of the unit and the bedroom at the front. The living room has hardwood floors and high ceilings, with stairs that rise to the second level. A breakfast bar separates this space from the kitchen, which has stainless steel appliances, including a gas range and a dedicated beverage refrigerator.

The second floor’s hallway, open to the living room below, is lined with bookshelves and has space for an office setup. The primary bedroom, off the hall, has two double-door closets, and the bathroom, next door, has a walk-in shower.

Outdoor space: Off the main level bedroom is a wood balcony, shaded by mature trees and with space for a cafe table and chairs. This unit also comes with one off-street parking spot.
