In T’s new series The Kit, we look at the tools creative people carry with them.

“These are for event carpets, like a step-and-repeat. Sometimes we’ll dye them a specific color, but these are the stock colors we go back to. We used a lipstick red for the ‘And Just Like That …’ premiere.”

“It’s made in Italy with a single piece of mostly recycled graphite. It’s good for jotting down notes or a quick sketch.”

Sharpie, rubber bands and A-clamps (above center)

“These three objects are very important. A Sharpie is the perfect marker. I like the medium thickness. It’s still legible and can also be a remedy if you need to touch up a scuff — it’s permanent, however, so you have to know what you’re doing. Oversize rubber bands are versatile if we’re managing cords or doing floral work. The Japanese brand Kyowa makes them in lots of colors. And A-clamps are a great rigging tool if we’re trying to do a shot and want to experiment with backgrounds.”

Lance aluminum ruler (above right)

“This is hefty. We don’t use it for measuring per se but as a straightedge guide if we’re doing wallpaper or cutting prints.”
