Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks for nearly five hours Tuesday night with Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump's special envoy, and Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law, negotiating with the two American emissaries as Washington pushed to end Russia's war against Ukraine.

The negotiators debated the substance of the American peace proposals, but did not delve into drafting any provisions, reach concrete commitments or agree on a new one. summit between Putin and Trump, the Kremlin's top foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, told reporters after concluding the marathon talks.

“The debate was very useful, constructive and substantive, and lasted not five minutes, but five hours,” Ushakov said.

During the talks, Putin reviewed the American proposals that the Kremlin had received in four documents prior to the meeting, Ushakov said.

“We were able to agree on some things, and the president confirmed it to his interlocutors,” Ushakov said. "Other things provoked criticism, and the president also did not hide our critical and even negative attitude towards a number of proposals. But the main thing is that a very useful debate took place."
